To date, no direct effect of Ursopol on the increase in alkaline phosphatase levels has been reported. However, the drug may cause calcification of gallstones, which in turn may lead to cholestasis (i.e. retention of bile in the bile ducts), which may cause an increase in the level of alkaline phosphatase.
