Bleeding after uterine curettage (removal of placental remnants after childbirth) can last from a few days to even 2 weeks. Recovery after surgery is individual, so each woman may have a slightly different experience with bleeding.
Moderate to heavy bleeding, similar to heavy menstruation, can be expected immediately after curettage. This bleeding should gradually decrease with each passing day. Then, the bleeding usually turns into light spotting or brown discharge, which can last up to about 10-14 days. Some women may experience minor spotting for up to 3 weeks after surgery.
If the bleeding is very heavy, lasts more than 2 weeks, or is accompanied by pain, fever, unpleasant smell of discharge or other worrying symptoms, you should consult a doctor as soon as possible, as these may be signs of infection or incomplete emptying of the uterus.
