Can I get pregnant during the postpartum period?

Can I get pregnant during the postpartum period if it is a regression of changes after childbirth? I am still bleeding and expressing milk with a breast pump and the boy was touching me with his bare penis around the vagina without intercourse. Pregnancy is rather possible after the end of the postpartum period ?

The puerperium usually lasts about 6 weeks and during this time it is recommended to refrain from sexual activity due to the healing process of postpartum lesions and the associated risk of infection and pain.

The appearance of ovulation after childbirth is related to several factors. Usually, women who breastfeed their baby only remain longer in the postpartum infertility period, which is associated with persistently high levels of prolactin. In any other case, ovulation may occur earlier (even before the end of the puerperium), so it is advisable to use contraception during intercourse.

In the described situation, I do not see a risk of pregnancy due to the lack of physical possibility of fertilization. Before starting intercourse, it is worth going to a gynaecologist for a check-up.

In case of any doubts, I encourage you to use the teleconsultation with a gynaecologist - the service is available on our website in the e-visit tab:
