If I am allergic to an antiepileptic drug (hives, swelling of the body and face), can I take Zyrtec and continue to use this drug? Will the allergy then reduce its severity?
9.99 zł

I had a severe reaction to an anti-epileptic drug. In addition to hives, there is already swelling of the body and face and there is a chance that if I take Zyrtec now, but I do not stop taking the drug because it works very well in terms of antiepilepticism, will the allergy disappear? Or at least reduce his form only for urticaria ?

Yes, exactly. If you have developed symptoms of allergy to Ontozry, the only safe course is to stop taking it and not try to mask these symptoms with other medications, such as antihistamines. Allergic reactions may get worse with continued use, even if the symptoms are relieved for a while.

Please consult your doctor immediately to discuss further treatment and possible alternatives to Ontosra that do not cause such a reaction. Your doctor can help you safely stop taking the medication and suggest an alternative therapy.

So I understand that no drug will help, the only way is to stop working the drug Ontozra, right?

Up to @Maluszek:

Since you are in constant contact with a doctor who has full information about your health condition and it was he who recommended the simultaneous use of an anti-allergic preparation, please follow his recommendations, although in my opinion it is worth consulting this issue with your doctor again.

Zyrtec contains cetirizine dihydrochloride, which inhibits the allergic reaction. Each body responds differently to treatment, and the occurrence of immune system disorders is observed in patients uncommonly. If the observed ailments really relate to the drug used, the body's reaction to the drug will most likely be the same each time. The only way to get rid of the symptoms is to change to another medication that you will tolerate better.

It's about the drug Ontozry, my neurologist knows about it and said that zyrtec should help clear up these symptoms. I am in constant contact with the doctor.

You did not mention what specific antiepileptic drug you were talking about. Nevertheless, if symptoms of allergy appear , it is necessary to consult a doctor immediately. Your doctor will determine whether these symptoms are related to the medication you are taking, and if so, they will probably decide to stop using it and suggest other treatment options. Using Zyrtec will only mask the problem. The resulting swelling of the body, especially the face, should not be ignored. If the swelling affects the neck, breathing problems may occur , which can be directly life-threatening.

If contact with a doctor is difficult, the Gdziepolek.pl portal allows you to use teleconsultations, if necessary:

Side effects should be reported not only to the doctor, but also to the individual. You can read about how and why to report side effects here:
