Good morning. Your doctor prescribed Hascovir 200/5. My son is 2 years old and weighs 12 kg. The leaflet shows the administration of 6 ml. 4 times a day and the doctor prescribed 1.5 4 times a day. Chickenpox. Is this dose too low and the doctor calculated it wrong?

"Dosage of Hascovir suspension 200mg/5ml:
Treatment of chickenpox virus infections:
Children from 6 years of age – 800 mg four times a day.
Children aged 2 to 5 years – 400 mg four times a day.
Children under 2 years of age – 200 mg four times a day.
The dose may also be more accurately determined by administering 20 mg/kg body weight (up to a maximum dose of 800 mg) four times a day. Treatment should be continued for 5 days."
The suggested dose for a child weighing 12 kg is actually 6 ml (4 times a day).
It is difficult to assess why the doctor recommended a lower dosage of the drug - consultation is recommended to clarify the details. Without full knowledge of the course of the medical visit, I cannot assess whether the described dosage is an error/mistake or a deliberate action.
If you have any doubts, I encourage you to use the teleconsultation with a paediatrician - the service is available on our website in the e-visit tab:
