These drugs are classified as so-called psychotropic drugs and can be used to treat sleep disorders in adult patients.
Zolpidem and zopiclone (Dobroson) are older generation drugs. Zolpidem causes the so-called sleep induction, i.e. it makes it easier to fall asleep, zopiclone has a longer half-life and is also used when there is a need to maintain sleep and reduce the frequency of night awakenings.
These drugs have a high addictive potential, so the therapy should not last longer than 2-4 weeks; In certain cases, your doctor may recommend taking them for a long time, but up to 3 times a week, in the lowest possible doses.
Eszopiclone (Esogno) is a new generation drug (in Poland since 2020). It is considered to be a better tolerated drug, with a lower addictive potential, so it can be used for up to 6 months.
As research shows: "A comparison of eszopiclone with zolpidem in the efficacy of sleep maintenance disorders (increased sleep efficiency and decreased interjected wakefulness) showed that the 1 mg dose of eszopiclone was inferior in efficacy to zolpidem 10 mg, while the dose of 2.5 and 3 mg of eszopiclone was superior to it"
Since these are prescription drugs, their use must be decided by a doctor.
