The choice between flunarizine and Aimovig depends on the patient's individual needs, tolerance to side effects and financial capabilities. These drugs are available on prescription, so it is usually the doctor who takes all these factors into account and decides on treatment.
Flunarizine is a cheaper drug with documented efficacy in the prophylactic treatment of episodic migraine with frequent attacks. The effects can be visible after a few weeks, and the full effect after a few months. Flunarizine may cause side effects such as fatigue, weight gain, depression and Parkinsonian symptoms (especially in older patients) and is therefore not recommended for long-term use.

Aimovig is a more expensive but more modern drug that is effective in preventing migraines, especially in patients who do not respond to other forms of treatment. This drug is highly effective and has a good safety profile - it can be used for many months and has rare side effects (the most common side effects are constipation and local reactions after injection). The effects can be visible after the first month, and the full effect after a few months. The drug is given as an injection once a month, which may be more convenient for many patients than taking a tablet every day.
