Can you get infected with rabies indirectly?
9.99 zł

Hello. Can you get infected with rabies indirectly? And do I have a risk of infection when I touched the slippers with which I moved the object in which the animal drank after a few hours? It was a fox. There was no wound, but I unconsciously wiped the skin next to my eye.

To @Babeczka:

You can be calm. I do not see a significant exposure to infection here.

Can I be calm or should I worry? The family doctor told me that there was no such option and that I should be calm. The lady wrote that the risk is minimal. I'm starting to get scared and have phobias about it. I read that there is no indirect contact. Please answer because I'm really afraid.

I went to the family doctor and she reassured me that there was no chance that I would get infected in this way. That a lot of people walk in the forests and foxes are also there. I had no contact with this animal. The only contact was that I moved the object with my shoes. I did it after more than 7 hours. Undamaged skin. I only rubbed the corner of the skin of the eye from the temple side.

Rabies infection as a result of indirect contact is very unlikely. Rabies is mainly transmitted through direct contact with infected saliva, which usually occurs as a result of a bite or contact with damaged skin.

If you touch the slippers with which you moved the bowl from which the fox drank, the risk of infection is minimal, especially if there is no damage to the skin.

If you have doubts about this situation, it is always worth consulting a doctor who can provide more personalized advice. If you are not able to make a face-to-face visit, I attach a link to the online teleconsultation:

I would like to point out that I moved this bowl after more than 7 hours. Am I in danger?
