Discontinuation of pantoprazole should be carried out with caution to minimise the risk of reflux recurrence. Instead of abrupt discontinuation, it is useful to gradually reduce the dose of the medication, e.g. adjusting 40 mg of pantoprazole per day, you can first switch to 20 mg per day for a week or two, and then take 20 mg every other day before stopping completely.
