Yes, you can stay in the same room. The presence of two people infected with the same disease - flu or cold in the same room or apartment, should not exacerbate the symptoms in either of these people. When the body fights a pathogen - it already engages its immune system and additional exposure to the same pathogen does not increase the burden on the body or intensify the symptoms. So there is no reason to worry.
