Maxitrol drops are designed to treat infections and inflammation of the eyes. Using them on the ears is not recommended. Was the doctor really aware of what infection he was prescribing the drug for?
If your partner has an ear infection, there are specially developed medications designed specifically for the ears. The use of eye drops in the ears can be dangerous - they may have the wrong composition or pH and there is a risk of complications or lack of effectiveness of treatment. I would recommend another consultation with a specialist.
