Good morning.
I have been taking Amitriptyline VP 10mg in the morning for a few weeks now - the drug was prescribed by my neurologist for neuropathic and tension headaches.
Because of these ailments, I also have problems with falling asleep. Some time ago, a psychiatrist prescribed me Trittico CR 75mg to take before bedtime (I take 1/3 of the tablet, i.e. 25mg).
Can I take these two drugs at the same time?

If the doctor who prescribed Trittico CR has been told that you are already taking Amitriptyline VP, you can take these medicines at the same time. In some cases, doctors may choose to use these medications together to improve sleep quality. However, this is a decision that must be made by the doctor, taking into account the individual needs of the patient and the risk of side effects.
Both drugs have a sedative effect and affect serotonin levels in the brain, so their concomitant use may increase the risk of excessive sedation (drowsiness) and serotonin syndrome. It may be accompanied by symptoms such as fever, sweating, increased heart rate, diarrhoea, (uncontrollable) muscle cramps, chills, increased reflexes, anxiety, mood changes, loss of consciousness. In addition, combining these drugs can lead to cardiac arrhythmias.
