No, diazepam and lorazepam are not the same thing, although both drugs belong to the same group – benzodiazepines. Benzodiazepines are used to treat anxiety, insomnia, and as sedatives or anticonvulsants.
Diazepam has a longer duration of action, which is why it is often used for long-term treatment of anxiety. Lorazepam is shorter-acting but starts to work faster, which makes it often used to treat acute anxiety.
