Biotropil is not a psychotropic drug. Piracetam - the active substance in Biotropil affects nerve cells and the vascular system. Piracetam prevents changes in brain function caused by hypoxia and restores cognitive abilities in people with brain damage of various kinds, e.g. after hypoxia, poisoning or electroshock. In children with dyslexia, piracetam increases the speed of reading and improves the process of remembering. The drug does not cause withdrawal symptoms. According to the manufacturer: "Patients treated for myoclonus should not be abruptly discontinued to prevent the recurrence of myoclonus or generalized seizures associated with rapid discontinuation."
