Drowsiness or fatigue after amitriptyline are quite common symptoms, especially at the beginning of treatment. They can be particularly intense right after taking the medicine and usually weaken as the body gets used to the effects of amitriptyline. Some people may feel drowsy all the time they are taking the drug, and others may only experience it for the first few weeks. If you feel too sleepy after amitriptyline, it is important to consult the doctor who prescribed this medicine. Your doctor may adjust your dose of amitriptyline or consider other treatment options to alleviate this side effect. Amitriptyline may affect your ability to drive and use machines. If you feel drowsy after taking the medicine, you should avoid driving or other activities that require focus and alertness until this side effect has subsided.
