The use of expired dietary supplements is not recommended for safety and efficacy reasons.
An expired dietary supplement usually does not cause immediate poisoning, but its effectiveness can be significantly reduced, and in some cases harmful substances may occur, e.g. rancidity of fats, which can cause stomach discomfort. In particular, you should avoid using supplements containing proteins, fats, probiotics, vitamin E and fish oils after the expiration date, as they can be dangerous to health. Expired supplements can also change their smell, color or consistency, which is a signal that they are not suitable for consumption.
It is worth remembering that dietary supplements are not medicines and should not be used as a substitute. Supplements after the expiration date may not only not provide the expected benefits, but also, in rare cases, cause unpleasant gastrointestinal symptoms. For this reason, the best solution is to dispose of them and buy fresh products.
